Let's just have a quick chat about magic and how it's all around you constantly.

So the definition for MAGIC is the use of means (such as charms or spells) believed to have supernatural power over natural forces.

I take this to mean that something happened and we can't really explain how.

Which kind of reminds me of miracles.  The Oxford dictionary defines a miracle as 'a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency. '

Yeah, I think magic and miracles are kind of the same.  Yet in our society either you believe in one and not the other or you don't believe in either at all.  Yet, I'm sure you've had an experience where you've exclaimed 'YES!! IT'S A MIRACLE!!'  But I doubt you would swap the word miracle for magic.  Like if you were running late but managed to get every green light on the way to work and got there on time, or your child slept through the night for the first time.

We tend to use the work magic when we have a magic touch, like when your friend can rock your newborn to sleep instantly, or if you get a new kitchen gadget that works like magic.

So why all the semantics?  Well, I think we should start thinking of these two concepts as synonymous.  Let's just start there.  Magic and miracles are when one outcome is expected but a more preferred result occurs.   Let's even let go of the idea that something is magic or a miracle without a logical explanation.  Maybe it can be explained, the green lights are timed and you were able to just get the best rhythm so you hit them all at once.  That doesn't make it any less awesome that you were able to get there at that exact time and how that set of circumstances helped you reach your destination earlier than you thought you'd be. Or unexplained results, like getting Taylor Swift or Beyonce tickets, no one knows how it happens we just all hope for the best.

Anyway, when you can start looking around at all the miracles around you and how magical you are, it starts to build this self-confidence that has NOTHING to do with the patriarchal capitalistic society we've been raised in.  It has NOTHING to do with what you look like, what you're wearing, how much money you make, what kind of house you have, where you life, etc, etc.

These miracles or magical events happening around you all the time are just a reaction to you interacting with your circumstances, that's it.  You can start to see how things shine all around you, without actually having anything physically change in your life.   And this is something people can start to notice and do no matter their background, making this an equal and inclusive practice.

So next time you're binging your favorite show, every time you hit 'skip intro' MAGIC - you just time traveled.  When you use your instant pot to take a bunch of raw ingredients and turn that into an edible dinner - MAGIC - you just performed alchemical reactions.   You use your planner to arrange everyone's schedule so you can organize a girls weekend - MIRACLE - since everyone is always hella busy, getting everyone together is basically moving mountains.

So this power - the ability to change your way of thinking and seeing the world - should only be used for good.  This shift in perspective and seeing possibility where you previously thought of, well, nothing, is going to bring more happiness and ease throughout your day.  And that is where the real magic starts to happen.

Now a side note for those who might also have a religious faith that puts the focus on a single God.  You might be thinking that putting yourself as the central figure of your own power is sacrilege, and anything good in your life should be coming from your God.  Well, here is something to think about.  If that God is responsible for your creation, then aren't your co-creators together?  So, if you are seeing yourself as a powerful confident person, then you are also honoring that God and the power that God has and works through you, and what a great way to honor that God by recognizing that more frequently.   Just a thought.
